Caregivers of older adults in palliative care: level of burden and depressive symptoms

Abstract Introduction The burden perceived by informal caregivers of older adult cancer patients in palliative care is an incessant daily repetitiveness, and can negatively affect their physical mental health, as well social family life. Objective To assess the level intensity depressive symptoms caregivers, dependence adults for basic instrumental activities living. Methods This was a cross-sectional descriptive study, composed 20 with care. Caregivers were administered socio-economic demographic profile assessment. For International Physical Activity Questionnaire - IPAQ, Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) used. adults, Katz Index Independence Activities Daily Living (Katz ADL) Lawton Brody Instrumental scales (Lawton IADL scales) Data represented absolute percentage values. Results predominantly female, mostly daughters married or partner, elementary school education, income 1 to 3 times minimum wage, had sedentary lifestyle. A moderate verified 75% mild 45%. assessment ADL found that 55% independent all six functions, greater (75%) housekeeping such laundry (85%) driving vehicles (90%). Conclusion show burden, symptoms.
